For the recently unemployed and uninsured, skipping health care happens too often. Check out Walgreen's Take Care Clinic first.

Losing a job is bad enough, but for those who are jobless and have no health insurance, it is too easy to forgo health care treatment for other necessities such as food and shelter. With Walgreen’s Take Care Clinics, free visits are being offered until the end of the year for those who have recently lost their job and have no health insurance.

Take Care Recovery Plan

Walgreen’s free clinic visit initiative is known as the Take Care Recovery Plan. The program, in conjunction with Take Care Health Systems, is offered to Take Care Clinic patients and their families who are uninsured and lost their job on or after March 31, 2009. This program is being offered throughout the duration of 2009.

What the Plan Covers

According to the Walgreens press release, the Take Care Recovery Plan applies to most of the things that are offered at the Take Care Clinic. Routine treatments include the following:

  • common conditions, such as pink eye, seasonal allergies, urinary tract infections
  • respiratory illnesses, such as colds, sinus infections, bronchitis, strep throat
  • skin conditions, such as poison ivy, minor skin infections or burns

Other conditions might be covered and should be checked at the Walgreens Take Care Clinic, if needed.

What the Plan Does not Cover

According to Walgreens, certain items will not be covered under the plan. These include but are not limited to vaccinations, physicals, health evaluations, and injection/infusion administration. Any other exclusion will be determined by the Take Care Recovery Plan.

How to Become Eligible

According to the Walgreens press release, eligibility is determined by a number of factors. If the person is already a Take Care Clinic patient before March 31, 2009 and loses their job on that date or after, they are qualified as long as the individual has no health insurance. In this situation, the individual, their spouse or same-sex partner, and any dependants or minor children who have no health insurance qualify as well.

For those who are not Take Care Clinic patients before March 31, 2009, they must become a Take Care Clinic patient before the job loss takes place in order to be eligible. If this requirement is met, then the same circumstances apply for dependants who are uninsured.

Any questions regarding qualifications can be addressed by contacting the plan at 1-866-825-3227 or visiting the Take Care Recovery Plan site.

Visiting the Take Care Clinic

All eligible patients can visit the clinic Monday through Friday, from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm on a walk-in basis at any Walgreens that has a Take Care Clinic available. Upon visitation, patients will be required to show an unemployment determination letter and sign a certification letter.

When the added stress of losing a job and health insurance starts to weigh in financially, don’t let health care go to the wayside. Contact Walgreens to see if eligibility can be met for free health care throughout the rest of 2009.
